Nature and environmental writing enable the conservation of places now and into the future in order to sustain their energy-producing processes in and as home habitats for humans and more-than-humans. They acknowledge and respect the role of these processes in the lives of more-than-humans. They enable the conservation of plants and animals, especially threatened and endangered species and their habitats, such as the Swallowtail Butterfly (depicted on the cover of this book) and its wetland home. They are prosaic in poetic prose, or prose poetry; they mix fact, fiction, and genres from heterogeneous sources; they are dialogic and polyphonic with nature and ‘the environment’ in the country and the city and between them; they are transdisciplinary with the sciences, arts, and humanities; they are minor literature written in major languages that deconstructs and decolonizes them and their cultures; they are carnivalesque about the grotesque and the monstrous and subvert hierarchies; and they engage femo- and psycho-political ecology and create political ecocriticism, including of nature and environmental writing.
