Agriculture and Tourism
摘要
This chapter examines the development of economic regionalism in two industry sectors that were not under the direct responsibility of the economic regions—tourism and agriculture. Tourism developed rapidly after 1918 and regional representative organizations sprung up spontaneously to help the industry operate more effectively, publicize its services and obtain support from government and other interested parties like the railway companies. Representative agricultural organizations went back into the nineteenth century but new ones developed after 1918, such as the chambres d’agriculture and regional federations of local agricultural syndicates. They helped the industry articulate its concerns during a period of increasing economic difficulty for the industry and fluctuating prices. There was some cooperation between economic regions and agricultural organizations in the offices régionaux on the subject of power prices and transport services.
