I proposed co-leading a DARPA research project and won the contract that allowed me to start AM+A in 1982. For DARPA, we designed new conventions for the C programming language and one of the first commercial graphical user interfaces for Intran. We also completed major projects for HP, Apple, and the Microcomputer Technology Consortium. We were well on our way to becoming a significant design studio for technology.
