Intro: Agitating Political Agency Through Relational Constellations—Moral Casting and Mobilization of Citizens in Online Videos
摘要
Civic activism practised in online videos is a communicative setup located beside and between broader institutional structures such as the parliament and the mass media. Among the laity a person or a group of people in the activity framework of activism reach out to other citizens as inhabitants of the shared culture to renegotiate cultural orders and practices. An activist may be a celebrity but plays no professional role in the system during the pursuit of its aims. The logic and easy accessibility of social media as a medium renders the endeavour free of the constraints and hierarchies characterizing more formal institutions. Civic activism is a bottom-up practice intended to alert and mobilize fellow-citizens behind a cause. It is forward-looking and projective. It strives for social change and pursues this goal by starting from the grassroot level of society. The storyworld of activism is world-breaking rather than world-making (Herman, 2009). An important aspect of activism is to highlight a problem in social reality and motivate a need for a change among ordinary people.
