Agriculture heavily relies on energy, especially fossil fuels, which played a key role in the Green Revolution but also contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Agri-food systems account for about 30% of global energy use, with most consumed after harvest in transport, processing, and distribution. However, agriculture also has strong potential to produce renewable energy. This chapter examines energy generation from biomass and the integration of electricity production into farming. Special attention is given to agrivoltaics as a promising solution.

摘要

Agriculture heavily relies on energy, especially fossil fuels, which played a key role in the Green Revolution but also contribute significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. Agri-food systems account for about 30% of global energy use, with most consumed after harvest in transport, processing, and distribution. However, agriculture also has strong potential to produce renewable energy. This chapter examines energy generation from biomass and the integration of electricity production into farming. Special attention is given to agrivoltaics as a promising solution.
