Coaching: The ‘Golden Thread of Change’
摘要
This chapter explores coaching as a transformative approach to personal and organisational development, particularly within healthcare and maternity services. It reframes coaching as a universal tool, not just for senior leaders, but for all staff, promoting a culture of empowerment, empathy and accountability. This chapter defines coaching, distinguishes it from mentoring and therapy and outlines essential coaching skills, such as active listening, questioning, feedback and empathy. It emphasises the value of a coaching mindset in leadership, career development, wellness, addressing workplace issues and achieving culture change. Through case studies and real-world examples, the authors demonstrate the impact of coaching on individuals and teams, highlighting successful initiatives like the All-Wales Midwifery Leadership and Development Programme. This chapter also explores the challenges and uneven adoption of coaching within the NHS. Ultimately, it positions coaching as the ‘golden thread of change’, advocating for wider access and integration to improve workplace culture and enhance outcomes for staff and for those who use maternity services.
