Islamic banking is a system that has grown significantly in practice, but also in theory and research. Namely, Islamic banking has been the subject of several studies examining its efficiency and profitability. However, even though Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) as a methodology exists for over 4 decades, it has been applied to Islamic banking efficiency evaluation rather limited and modest. The main objective of this research study is to contribute to the organization and analysis of scientific literature related to the application of DEA methodology in Islamic banking-related studies. Utilizing the R studio’s Bibliometrix bibliometric tool and quantitative approach, the research identifies patterns and trends in publications globally. The key terms “ISLAMIC BANKING” and “DATA ENVELOPMENT ANALYSIS” were used for search of the two most renowned global scientific databases, namely the Scopus and Web of Science databases with no limitation to date of publication. The findings of the study revealed significant insights, including the scarcity of empirical research in Islamic banking with the application of the DEA methodology. Moreover, identification of key research themes and current trend topics, the annual scientific production, the most relevant authors, the most cited countries, the most cited and relevant articles, the most relevant sources, the most relevant affiliations, the co-occurrence network, the most frequent words as well as visualization of thematic map and word cloud associated with Islamic banking and Data Envelopment Analysis are revealed. The publications synthesis should serve as a basis for policymakers, Islamic banking management, and researchers navigating the evolving application of DEA in Islamic banking.
