Strengthening Future Workforce Through Enhancement of Well-Being in Higher Education
摘要
One of the ways to develop economic vitality is by strengthening the current and potential workforce through enhancement of their well-being. This paper analyzes the influence of student general well-being on their academic achievement. Elements such as gender, age, relationships, as well as type and level of studies are also being considered. 226 students from the South East European University (SEEU) in North Macedonia, from the three study cycles, participate in the study. A general well-being questionnaire has been administered to them and analyzed by using correlation analysis. The paper aims to provide answers to the following research questions: To what extent does student well-being affect their academic performance? How do the different aspects of student well-being affect their performance (including psychological, social and cognitive components)? What is the influence of gender, age and marital status on the relationship between student well-being and their academic success? Recommendations based on findings will serve to raise awareness about this phenomenon and initiate activities for counseling services and other forms of student psychological and general health support in order to strengthen the future workforce capacities for meeting the modern business challenges.
