Building Information Modeling Execution Plans (BEPs) are crucial to effectively implementing Building Information Modeling (BIM). However, a successful development of BEP is impeded by a lack of adequate information. Establishing an effective BEP has to deal with specific strategies to ensure successful BIM project deliverable. The study aims to investigate critical strategies for developing effective BEPs. To achieve that aim, the objective outlined is to identify critical strategies, determine similarities and differences between critical strategies, and establish a relationship model between critical strategies for developing effective BEPs. A total of 122 questionnaire survey data were collected from BIM professionals. Data were analyzed using normalized mean analysis, overlap analysis, Kruskal–Wallis H test, and Spearman's correlation analyses. The results revealed sixteen critical strategies. Twelve critical strategies overlap between contractors, consultants, and clients, including ‘Make a strategic BEP to deal with unpredictability,’ ‘BEP needs to develop a strategy to avoid cost, time, and quality (CTQ) overruns,’ and ‘BEP needs roles for each discipline involved in the project’. Furthermore, minimal differences in the means exist in the critical strategies. Finally, a strong correlation exists among the critical strategies. These findings suggest that industry practitioners should consider implementing the critical strategies as a group rather than individually to enhance BEP development. The findings of this study provide significant support to BIM professionals in implementing BIM to develop the most effective BEPs and ensure the successful BIM projects deliverable. This is the first paper that investigates the critical strategies for developing effective BEPs.
