Intersections are locations with merging, diverging or crossing vehicle movements resulting in potential conflict points. In this study, two uncontrolled intersections which are prone to vehicle as well as pedestrian conflicts and frequent crash history are identified. The objective of the study is to analyze traffic concerns and develop traffic management strategies based on relevant Indian Roads Congress (IRC) guidelines. The identified locations include intersections in front of Pala Mini Civil Station in Kottayam district and near the All Saint’s College in Thiruvananthapuram in the state of Kerala, India. Based on the study, a roundabout with a 10 m circulatory width and 12 m central island diameter was recommended, along with traffic signs, markings, parking management, and pedestrian facilities for the Pala Mini Civil Station junction. A roundabout (12 m circulatory width, 4 m central island diameter) with traffic signal was proposed at All Saints’ College junction. The study also recommends bus bay relocation, street lighting improvements and enhanced pedestrian facilities. The proposed strategies aim to reduce congestion, minimize conflicts, and improve overall traffic flow and road safety. This study provides a structured framework for intersection improvement, ensuring safer and more efficient movement for all road users.

摘要
