Proximate Analysis of Medical Waste Using Thermogravimetric Method
摘要
Medical and non-medical waste generated by healthcare facilities is very large. The high pile of medical and non-medical waste seriously threatens environmental sustainability. Traditional waste processing cannot be used for medical and non-medical waste because it has a high infectious rate, requires large land, the process produces gas, and is unsustainable. Pyrolysis can be an effective solution that is being developed for the treatment of medical and non-medical waste. The pyrolysis process will produce quality products such as biochar, bio-oil, and biogas. One of the basic parameters so that medical and non-medical waste can be carried out by pyrolysis, it is necessary to test first. The characteristic test used in this research is proximate analysis. The method used in this proximate analysis of medical and non-medical waste is thermogravimetry. This study aims to determine the characteristics of medical and non-medical waste by using proximate analysis so that it can be processed effectively by pyrolysis. The characteristics obtained in the proximate analysis of medical and non-medical waste include water content, volatile content, ash content, and fixed carbon content. The results showed that the moisture content of medical and non-medical waste tested had an average of 6.33%, volatile content with an average of 77.51%, ash content had an average of 8.79%, and fixed carbon content. The highest up to 23.07%. This proves that the tested medical and non-medical waste has good characteristics, so it has the potential to be processed by pyrolysis to produce quality products.
