Oakeshott and Liberalism
摘要
This study examines Michael Oakeshott’s relation to liberalism. It was believed that Oakeshott would be provided “funeral honors” by both liberals and conservatives, so the question arises, which of these two are more entitled to the legacy of his thoughts. This quarrel goes on despite the fact that Oakeshott indicated in one of his essay’s title, where he belongs to (On Being Conservative). This essay outlines what arguments liberals put forward in order to claim Oakeshott one of their own, and why these arguments leave alot to be desired. Oakeshott criticized his contemporary liberals (among others), and did not accept their primary presuppositions.
