Cutting-Edge Advancements of Digital Twin Technologies Towards Smart Infrastructural Construction Management

In the forthcoming decades, the application of Digital Twins (DTs) technologies is estimated to be found in major sectors of the economy driven industries. In the domain of Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC), the employment of this technological advancement is still at prototype stage to the maximum extent. Establishing DTs as a practice in infrastructural domain requires the creation of common protocols and standards that are specific to the use cases and operations in the construction industry. This study presents a comprehensive review about the evolution and possible applications of DT in the sphere of infrastructural industry while discussing the different components of DT and their relationship between each other and how they influence the various parts of smart infrastructure. The study also attempted to compare the technological advancement of BIM and DT for better understanding their role in smart construction industry and presented the current scenario of employment of DT in construction management system and provided suggestions towards the extent of its implementation in broader aspect of smart infrastructural development.
