First Intermission: Why the Existence of the Past Can Make a Difference to How We Feel About Life
摘要
This chapter presents a thought-experiment about a multi-generational spaceship which is headed for assured obliteration in a few centuries. Based on this, it asks if the crew on board should stop reproducing or not. It is then claimed that this situation is closely linked to the question about the existence of the past, and thus proves that this question can be of existential importance for us humans.
