Intellectual Contributions and Working Methods
摘要
In chapter 2, Julian’s son Josh describes Julian’s career trajectory, and introduces his key conceptual contributions, including his work on ‘assimilation’ and ‘taboo’, the ‘weapons succession process’, new utilities for chemical weapons in Syria, and others. The chapter also documents Julian’s major policy-focussed research, such as his work with Matthew Meselson and others which proved that so-called ‘Yellow Rain’ attacks in South East Asia, that had triggered that US allegations of chemical weapons use, were actually the result of mass cleansing flights by bees – i.e. bee poo. Detailing Julian’s approach to collecting, processing and storing information, as well as to building and supporting diverse communities, the chapter shows that Julian pioneered new working methods, many of which foreshadow contemporary developments in open source investigations. The chapter concludes with the eulogy Josh read at Julian’s funeral.
