Geospatial Analysis of Crimes in Tamaulipas: A K-Means Clustering Approach
摘要
This article explores one of the main social issues in Tamaulipas: crime. The National Institute of Statistics and Geography, in its report on victimization and perception of security published in September 2024, highlighted that during the previous year, the state experienced a significant increase in the number of crimes compared to the past three years. Consequently, it is essential for public security agencies to develop strategic plans for the timely response to crime, using historical data on when, where, and how these events occur. Through this study and with the support of the K-Means algorithm, implicit patterns in the data are extracted to group neighborhoods in the main municipalities of the state according to their criminal activity. The results reflect a detailed and well-segmented analysis of the clusters obtained in each municipality of Tamaulipas, considering both criminal and socioeconomic variables. The main contribution of this research is the development of an information system that, through an interactive map, allows for geospatial visualization of criminal clusters at the neighborhood level. This tool will support public security authorities in the efficient allocation of resources and in planning specific crime prevention strategies.
