Virtual Surgical Planning in Maxillary Reconstruction Using Free Fibula Flap

Maxillary defects from trauma or tumor resection present challenges for maxillofacial reconstruction, affecting both aesthetics and function. The free fibula flap is commonly used for reconstruction, often along with osseointegrated implants. Recent advancements in diagnostic imaging, such as 3D modeling and virtual surgical planning (VSP), have greatly enhanced preoperative planning. VSP offers precise anatomical visualization, improving surgical outcomes and reducing operative time. It involves collaboration among surgeons, biomedical engineers, and prosthodontists using high-resolution CT scans and 3D-printed models. While VSP enhances precision and minimizes complications, challenges like intraoperative variations and costs remain.
