Engaging Young Minds in AI Through Co-Designing and Making Their Own AI-Driven Apps in the Classroom
摘要
As children increasingly interact with AI, it is crucial to foster their understanding of AI technologies and their societal impact. This chapter examines the integration of AI education within K-12 curricula through a co-design project implemented in Finnish schools. The project engaged students from 12 schools in creating their own machine learning-driven applications using the GenAI Teachable Machine, a tool that supports a comprehensive app development process. This chapter highlights how educational tools, combined with design-oriented pedagogy, enhance students’ understanding of AI’s core concepts and societal impacts, and offer a meaningful learning experience for children. The project illustrated the pivotal role of educators in nurturing data agency and ethical awareness among young learners, preparing them for a future shaped by AI technologies.
