Challenges in Nursing Pharmacology
摘要
Pharmacology is a cornerstone of nursing education, where nurses play a critical role in patient care and medication administration. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (2023) (Standards framework for nursing and midwifery education. https://www.nmc.org.uk/globalassets/sitedocuments/standards/2024/standards-framework-for-nursing-and-midwifery-education.pdf ) emphasises the necessity of nursing curricula that provides learning opportunities that align with the required proficiencies and programme outcomes, including safe and effective administration of medications. The significance of pharmacology in nursing education is underscored by several key factors such as patient safety, clinical decision-making, interdisciplinary collaboration, and professional competence. Nevertheless, teaching and learning pharmacology within nursing education presents several challenges. This chapter delves into four key challenges that nursing students encounter during their pharmacology studies, including the inherent fear of nursing students towards biosciences, poor spiralling of biosciences in nursing curricula, getting the language and detail right, and teaching pharmacology and medication management.
