Educating for the Future: FinTech and Digital Innovation in Mexican Higher Education
摘要
Teaching FinTech in higher education poses numerous challenges and necessitates innovative pedagogical strategies to ensure meaningful and effective learning outcomes. This chapter investigates the pedagogical approaches adopted in FinTech-related courses across a selection of public and private universities in Mexico, with a particular emphasis on the integration of digital tools and technological methods in instructional practices. To achieve this objective, we conducted a comprehensive review of FinTech course offerings, analyzing curriculum design, teaching methodologies, and the focus on developing practical, industry-relevant skills. Additionally, the study evaluates the extent to which these courses prepare students for employment in the FinTech sector, assessing how well university programs align with labor market demands. The research methodology involved a detailed analysis of educational content structured around core competencies and specific FinTech concepts. Through this approach, we aim to provide valuable insights into the current state of FinTech education and identify opportunities for pedagogical enhancement. Our findings reveal that, while some institutions offer continuing education or short-term programs related to FinTech, we found no comprehensive undergraduate or graduate curricula dedicated to the field. Based on this gap, we recommend the development of a dedicated educational framework tailored to the unique requirements of the FinTech industry. This framework should integrate best practices to strengthen students’ conceptual understanding and technical proficiency. Ultimately, this study contributes to the broader discourse on FinTech education by offering empirical evidence and actionable recommendations to support the advancement of pedagogical practices in this rapidly evolving domain.
