This chapter outlines arguments for anti-natalism in the philosophical literature beyond the ones that have been developed by Benatar. The degree to which these arguments have been developed varies greatly, and as such my main aim is to provide a bird’s eye view of what I take to be the most important components of them. These are arguments based on Risk, Hypothetical Consent, Exploitation, not creating Victims, failing to guarantee the Right to Security, and Negative Utilitarianism. I conclude that all but the argument based on negative utilitarianism are at least prima facie consistent with Christianity.

摘要

This chapter outlines arguments for anti-natalism in the philosophical literature beyond the ones that have been developed by Benatar. The degree to which these arguments have been developed varies greatly, and as such my main aim is to provide a bird’s eye view of what I take to be the most important components of them. These are arguments based on Risk, Hypothetical Consent, Exploitation, not creating Victims, failing to guarantee the Right to Security, and Negative Utilitarianism. I conclude that all but the argument based on negative utilitarianism are at least prima facie consistent with Christianity.
