This chapter reviews the cognitive consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, integrating findings on the direct effects of SARS-CoV-2 infection on cognition during the acute phase and in long COVID, and the broader cognitive repercussions of the pandemic in the general, non-infected population. The mechanisms underlying cognitive impairments in infected and non-infected individuals are presented, and the factors of individual differences in responses to the infection or chronic stress caused by the pandemic are discussed. The need for integrative, person-centred interventions that address both neurological and psychological factors contributing to cognitive consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic is emphasised.
