Development and Evaluation of a Personalised Toolkit to Support Primary School Teachers with Digital Literature Literacy
摘要
It is becoming vital to integrate digital technologies into educational practices in primary schools in Europe. Digital literature literacy (DLL) skills can be cultivated in both teachers and students through the use of digital tools. However, there is a clear lack of existing tools for teachers that cover key aspects of DLL such as digital reading, comprehension, research skills, multimodal literacy and critical evaluation together. Therefore, a toolkit was developed iteratively to support primary school teachers of European schools to help them self assess, learn via open education resources (OERs) and exchange these skills along with the opportunity to collaboratively create daily lesson plans and reflect on their experiences. This toolkit was shared with teachers and evaluated using a questionnaire that was a combination of System Usability Scale (SUS) and additional questions to gather qualitative feedback on each feature. The evaluation resulted in a median SUS score of 75, indicating a good level of usability. Moreover, qualitative feedback highlighted that teachers particularly appreciated the assessment, lesson planning, collaboration and community features, such as the ability to view and endorse peers’ skills and send email queries. In the future, we aim to leverage Generative AI to create real time assessments, lesson plans, and other educational resources for acquiring DLL skills at scale. The toolkit will be made available to teachers for long-term use, with its potential evaluated over the course of a year in the classroom in several primary schools in Europe.
