The increasing pressuresfaced by school-going children necessitate effective interventions to improve their emotional well-being and academic performance. The impact of yogic techniques coupled with music on cognitive and emotional development in children is an area of growing interest. Utilizing electroencephalography (EEG) to assess brain activity can provide insights into how yogic and music interventions affect neural processes related to attention, relaxation, and emotional regulation. The present study aims to investigate the effects of music-yoga practices on school going children using state of the art EEG analysis techniques. Two groups of 5 school going students selected for the present study, one experimental group and the other control group. The intervention integrating music and yoga comprised a 20-minute session with five sequential phases: baseline rest (1 min), music listening (3 min), Bhramari Pranayama (5 min), OM meditation (10 min), and recovery (1 min). During the entire protocol, EEG recordings were taken to assess changes in brainwave patterns, specifically focusing on theta and alpha waves, which are associated with relaxation, focus, and cognitive processing respectively. Different EEG performance metrics like relaxation, stress, attention and excitement were measured real time from the customized EMOTIV EEG software for each of the experimental conditions. Also, standard nonlinear techniques like Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA) was employed to assess the degree of fluctuations or complexity present in the EEG signals, which have been used as a parameter to identify the effect of music-yoga protocol on the human brain.
