Sustainability and Industry 4.0 are trends that will need to walk side by side throughout the coming years. The new technological advances will have to meet the need of economic growth, but also meet the need to solve the actual and upcoming socio-environmental issues. This can also be met on the shop floor management context. Whereas Industry 4.0 brings digitalization to its processes, becoming management tasks easier, there is a growing awareness that the balance between the economic, environmental and social sustainability must be the main goal of any human activity, what complicates things. Therefore, the path to follow must be the sustainable development one. It is the only way to guarantee a prosperous future for businesses and Humanity. Since sustainable shop floor management is quite an emerging and still very underdeveloped topic, there is a need to do exploratory research on the area. So, this paper presents an exploratory narrative literature review which seeks to identify in existent literature potential contributions of nine shop floor management components, daily practices and tools previously reported in the literature – visual management, work standardization, problem solving, key performance indicators tracking, continuous improvement, change point management, competency development, daily accountability process, and leader standard work – for sustainability. The results show that visual management, key performance indicators tracking, and continuous improvement are the shop floor management elements more researched in previous literature.

摘要
