Growing global challenges, such as enhanced competitiveness, resource scarcity, and climate change, require innovative strategies to systematically foster resource efficiency and sustainable business performance in manufacturing enterprises. Circular economy practices bear tremendous potential in this respect, but their overall impact on various business performance measures is still insufficiently explored. The implementation of circular economy practices requires, on the one hand, a deep understanding of manufacturing processes throughout the value chain and their interconnectedness, and, on the other hand, an empirically-based investigation of the relationship between resource efficiency and business performance. Therefore, this study proposes a model to investigate the impact of circular economy practices on business performance in manufacturing enterprises. Using a variance-based structural equation modeling approach, this study analyzes the advantages of implementing circular economy practices concerning the improvement of eco-nomic, environmental, and social performance measures. The authors pre-sent preliminary research results based on analyses of manufacturing companies in Austria and derive success factors for the implementation of circular economy practices and for subsequent empirical studies.

摘要
