This chapter examines the concepts of gender, sexuality, and social stigma through a social constructionist lens. It is organised into two sections. The first section interrogates the formation of gender and sexual identities as products of intersubjective encounters and everyday social interactions. The second section situates the lived experiences of GNCP within Erving Goffman’s theoretical framework of stigma, while also moving beyond Goffman’s relatively static formulation to advance a more dynamic understanding of stigma as a political process. This shift foregrounds the role of institutional and structural forces in the production, regulation, and persistence of marginalised identities.
