A Scalable, Edge Supported Indoor Navigation System

Navigating through large and complex indoor environments such as malls, hospitals, and airports can be challenging due to the unavailability of reliable GPS signals. Most available solutions suffer in terms of scalability, performance, and privacy. The main aim of this work is to develop a scalable, reliable, edge-based indoor navigation system that provides location guidance in real time without relying on cloud-based services. This is done to achieve ease of deployment as well as the efficiency of user navigation. We propose a generalized architecture that is suitable for multi-floor buildings. Our system can be extended to multiple buildings with minimal infrastructure support. The system was successfully deployed and tested in a university building, demonstrating its effectiveness in real-world scenarios.
