In this chapter we present gridded observation-based datasets, ClimUAm and ClimUAd, recently developed in the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute (UHMI) of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine to facilitate and support climate research in Ukraine. ClimUAm contains gridded time series of monthly sums of atmospheric precipitation and monthly averages of daily minimum, mean and maximum surface (2 m) air temperature. ClimUAd includes gridded daily data of atmospheric precipitation and surface (2 m) air temperature (min, mean and max). Both datasets cover the period of 1946–2020 and both use a regular longitude-latitude grid with the spatial resolution of 0.1° × 0.1° (~10 km × 10 km). The datasets were developed based on a complete collection of measurements/observations performed at 178 meteorological stations of Ukraine. Monthly and daily summaries/aggregates of the station measurements were obtained from special reports (paper sources) through a data rescue (digitization) procedure, though a certain part of the data was received from the Central Geophysical Observatory of Ukraine in a digital form. The processing of the station data (a thorough quality control, homogenization and gridding) was performed in the strict accordance to World Meteorological Organization’s rules and recommendations and by applying modern and sophisticated meteorological/climatological software. The datasets have the great potential to be used for regional climate monitoring and as the reference for a wide variety of climatological applications for the territory of Ukraine. The developed gridded products were made freely available for research purposes and can be downloaded from the data repository of UHMI.

摘要
