Value Chain Resilience in Production Networks of Micro and Small Enterprises
摘要
Resilience is an important topic in the field of value and supply chain research. In global value chains, this issue is frequently discussed, especially in recent years. However, resilience in Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SME) is rarely studied, as recent literature reviews have found, even though resilience strategies may look different depending on enterprise size. Several authors suggest collaboration and networking to be such a strategy suitable to promote resilience in SMEs. Hence, this paper discusses resilience from the perspective of collaborative production networks. The focus is on a subgroup of SMEs, Micro and Small Enterprises (MSE). After considering the current state of research on this topic by analysing nine recent literature reviews, two resilience aspects, redundancy and flexibility, are deliberated regarding value chains in production networks. Then, different network scenarios are created by varying three parameters of production networks (size, horizontal or vertical networking, production process complexity) to assess their effects on resilience. This is done by first generating production steps and then inputting them into a lightweight planner, which was previously developed for use in MSE networks. The results are analysed and evaluated using redundancy and flexibility as a measure.
