The study examines the obstacles hindering the integration of the Metaverse into sustainable tourism in developing countries in Asia and Europe. It explores how virtual reality can help enhance people’s experiences while reducing the tourism industry’s environmental impact. The study utilizes various methods, such as the best–worst method (BWM), level-based weight assessment (LBWA), and combined compromise solution (CoCoSo), to investigate managerial and organizational issues. Interviews with experts from the tourism industry, including those from the Metaverse practitioners, carbon neutrality, and gastronomic tourism, serve as the basis for the research’s findings. The study proposes solutions such as virtual cooking classes and sustainable supply chains. It provides valuable insights into the potential of the Metaverse to advance sustainable gastronomic tourism and offers recommendations to stakeholders.
