Can Tourism Rebound? Exploring Resilience, Sustainability, and Digital Transformation in the Current Landscape
摘要
This chapter analyzes significant changes in tourist behavior and destination management strategies due to global transformations. It highlights changes in the tourism industry dur resilience, sustainability, and digital innovation. It analyzes how the changes in strategies can foster a more robust and adaptable tourism sector, which is capable of accommodating evolving passenger demands. The study utilized a systematic survey approach to understand the motivations, preferences, and perceptions in the aftermath of the global crisis. The survey was circulated over multiple social media platforms to cover an extensive demographic area. The data collection method included stratified sampling for representativeness, and the survey findings were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical techniques to identify the significant patterns and insights. The results indicate a significant shift in travel motivations and preferences, highlighting health and safety, sustainability, and digital innovation. Travelers prefer destinations with effective health protocols, sustainable trends, and digital tools for easier travel and safety. Travellers are increasingly inclined toward domestic travel, flexible booking alternatives, and lodgings with rigorous hygiene practices. Tourists are also more mindful of local communities and support environmentally friendly initiatives. The study resolves relevant insights for DMOs and policymakers, emphasizing that there must be adaptations to satisfy changing tourist expectations, to enhance health protocols, promote sustainable tourism, and invest further in digital infrastructure. The results indicate a strategic transition towards more resilient and sustainable tourism frameworks to address future uncertainties. The study’s geographical reach was restricted; future research should encompass varied demographic segments and wider locations to improve the generalizability of findings. Longitudinal research is also recommended to examine the persistence of behavioral changes over time. This chapter gives a combined perspective on resilience and sustainability against the backdrop of transformations in global tourism. It offers empirical data regarding the impact of these global shifts on tourist behavior and destination management techniques. The Framework focuses on incorporating sustainable and resilient tourism practices by incorporating public health, environmental science, and digital technologies.
