To explain why leaders can act unethically with a clear conscience, this chapter takes Albert Bandura’s theory of moral disengagement as its starting point. The chapter’s central contribution, however, is a critique of this influential theory, highlighting its failure to account for crucial cognitive and affective inner states. To overcome these limitations, the chapter outlines a new, integrated model of ethical decision-making that synthesizes insights from moral psychology, cognitive science, and philosophy.

摘要

To explain why leaders can act unethically with a clear conscience, this chapter takes Albert Bandura’s theory of moral disengagement as its starting point. The chapter’s central contribution, however, is a critique of this influential theory, highlighting its failure to account for crucial cognitive and affective inner states. To overcome these limitations, the chapter outlines a new, integrated model of ethical decision-making that synthesizes insights from moral psychology, cognitive science, and philosophy.
