This chapter deals with p–n junction and uses of it in detail. The chapter starts with energy band and energy gap of semiconductor crystals like Silicon, and n-type and p-type doping of the semiconductor crystal. It then covers energy band model of p–n junction. Use of p–n junction in half wave and full wave bridge rectification and in voltage regulation are covered besides a nice coverage of light emitting diode and photodiode using energy band models.
