This chapter examines security considerations for adopting Internet of Things (IoT) in military applications. It analyzes the expanded attack surface and risks introduced by integrating commercial off the shelf/civilian IoT, covering threats such as compromise of data security, jamming, spoofing, and physical tampering across various use cases. Important military IoT (MIoT) security requirements include robust authentication, data integrity, confidentiality, availability, provenance, and trust management. Potential security measures are explored, including physical layer techniques, trusted platform modules (TPMs) for establishing trust, cryptographic access control (CAC) via attribute-based encryption (ABE), and overarching paradigms such as object-level protection (OLP) and data-centric security (DCS).
