IoT offers transformative potential for enhancing command and control agility, optimizing decision-making, improving situational awareness, and streamlining logistics and healthcare. The rapid evolution and dual-use nature of commercial IoT solutions present both opportunities for cost-effective capability enhancement and disruptive challenges to traditional military systems and doctrine. Leveraging civilian IoT infrastructure, such as smart cities, can augment intelligence and situational awareness. However, integration faces significant hurdles, including system heterogeneity, data trustworthiness, and critical cybersecurity vulnerabilities inherent to operating within adversarial environments. Effectively harnessing IoT requires addressing these security, reliability, and integration challenges within military communications and information systems.
