The Eastern Mediterranean was not a central focus in Turkish foreign policy (TFP) agenda during the Cold War. In the post–Cold War period, the region remained a secondary consideration. However, over the last two decades, under the AKP administration, Türkiye has (re)articulated its geopolitical imagination of the Eastern Mediterranean, transforming it into a strategically vital space. This shift has been driven by a combination of factors including hydrocarbon discoveries, maritime disputes, and broader geopolitical realignments. The region has become central to Türkiye’s efforts to assert maritime sovereignty, expand its energy security strategy, and challenge existing regional power structures. This chapter adopts a multi-dimensional analytical approach that integrates critical geopolitical thinking with empirical policy analysis. Instead of focusing solely on discourse, it examines how geopolitical imagination materializes through strategic decisions, diplomatic agreements, and military posturing. The study explores how the AKP government, influenced by the Blue Homeland (Mavi Vatan) doctrine, has sought to redefine Türkiye’s maritime domain, linking energy security to national sovereignty. In this context, Türkiye’s territorial claims, naval deployments, and hydrocarbon policies reflect not merely economic or security interests, but a broader effort to reshape the geopolitical order of the Eastern Mediterranean in line with its evolving self-perception in relation to the region.

摘要
