Factitious Disorders
摘要
This chapter explores Factitious Disorders involving medical deception, focusing on Factitious Disorder Imposed on Self (FDIS) (Feldman, Playing Sick?: Untangling the web of Munchausen syndrome, Munchausen by proxy, malingering, and factitious disorder, Taylor and Francis, 2013), Factitious Disorder Imposed on Another (FDIA) (Abdurrachid & Marques, CNS Spectrums, 27(1), 1–28, 2020), and Healthcare Serial Killers (HCSKs) (Yorker et al., Journal of Forensic Sciences, 51(6), 1362–1371, 2006). These disorders present significant challenges by obscuring the distinction between genuine illness and fabricated symptoms, creating dilemmas for both forensic and healthcare professionals (Feldman & Yates, Dying to be ill: True stories of medical deception, Routledge, 2018). As aspiring forensic experts, your understanding of these conditions is essential to support the healthcare systems. This chapter will provide a foundational analysis of these syndromes and related crimes.
