This chapter gives an overview and introduces application scenarios of wireless sensing for the metaverse. Specifically, environment sensing and user interaction act as the core of Extended Reality (XR). While existing vision-based methods could achieve promising performance in specific cases, the requirement of lighting conditions and privacy concerns still limit their application. In this chapter, we introduce wireless sensing, an emerging technique which could achieve contactless and privacy-friendly sensing for XR. Based on the signal utilized for sensing, existing wireless sensing systems can be generally categorized into WiFi-based and Radar-based ones. WiFi-based wireless sensing could achieve environment sensing by reusing existing infrastructures, while Radar-based one could extract finer-grained information from complex scenarios.

摘要
