The “metaverse”, recently popularized as the next evolution of the internet, represents a seamless blend of virtual and physical worlds where users can interact from anywhere at any time. While the metaverse is still in its early stages, ongoing innovations continue to push its development forward, drawing interest from researchers and industries. Among the sectors poised to benefit is real estate, a global industry that, despite its size, has lagged behind in technological modernization. There remains a significant gap in research regarding how the real estate sector can fully integrate with the metaverse. This chapter explores several key areas: (1) foundational concepts of the metaverse, including its definitions, architectural models, and core technologies; (2) the intersection of real estate with the metaverse, focusing on both current technologies and virtual properties; (3) disruptive technologies in real estate that are facilitating the industry’s integration with the metaverse; and (4) the reciprocal impacts of the metaverse and real estate on each other. Our analysis of real estate technology trends and metaverse innovations shows how closely disruptive real estate technologies align with core metaverse technologies. As a result, further research can be advantageous to real estate as well as a number of other industries.
