Africa has long been a target for foreign investors and multinational corporations looking to profit from its enormous natural resources. Now a rapidly developing continent, this advancement is coming at a cost. Human rights violations, environmental destruction, conflict and a cycle of poverty/inequality have often accompanied this exploitation/development, leaving many African communities in a state of peril. The UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights provide a framework for addressing these challenges. This chapter contributes to the existing body of knowledge by engaging the African Union Transitional Justice Policy as an essential complementary tool in addressing the shortcomings of the Guiding Principles. This approach unravels the transformative potential of the African Union Transitional Justice Policy; adeptly designed to fit the African context and flexible enough to be adapted to address multifaceted challenges. This is key in addressing the nexus between business, human rights, and conflict in the African region. The qualitative research method is adopted, to this end the doctrinal research methodology is relevant in policy and content analysis, to show the benefits of adopting a transitional justice approach in addressing business related human rights violations in Africa.
