The Evolution and Impact of Regional Economic Integration on Global Trade
摘要
Regional economic integration involves agreements among countries within a geographic region to reduce trade barriers, facilitating the free flow of goods, services, and factors of production. This integration, which drives globalization, can take various forms: Preferential Trade Areas (PTAs) offer reduced tariffs on select products; Free Trade Areas (FTAs) eliminate tariffs and quotas among members; Customs Unions add common external tariffs; Common Markets allow free movement of labor, capital, and goods; and Economic Unions encompass a common currency and harmonized policies. Integration aims to boost trade, investment, and political cooperation, though it may also create trade diversion and concerns over national sovereignty. Examples include the European Union and NAFTA, with regional agreements evolving in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa, each aiming to enhance economic cooperation and development within their respective regions.
