The facial artery myomucosal (FAMM) flap was first described by Pribatz et al. in 1992. This is an axial flap that is based on the facial artery and can be utilized in a wide range of palatal, nasal cavity, and floor of mouth defects. The FAMM flap provides a long flap length for coverage, is hairless, and provides functional preservation of the mobility of the tongue. It is easy to harvest, highly adaptable, and can be based inferiorly or superiorly to reconstruct superior as well as inferior defects.
