Supply Chain Resilience and Network Redesign. Insights from the Stellantis Group

This chapter delves into the transformative process of electrification within the automotive industry, emphasizing its role as a pivotal shift in vehicle technology and corporate sustainabilitysustainability. Electrification, driven by stricter environmental regulations and growing consumer awareness, is reshaping not only manufacturing practices but also the broader supply chain structure. The chapter highlights how the automotive supply chain, complex and increasingly global, has been disrupted by geopolitical instability, rising raw material costs, and the technological demands of electric vehicle (EVEVBEV) production. It distinguishes between logistics and supply chain management, offering a detailed analysis of how sustainability imperatives have influenced strategic decisions across the sector. The European Union's “Fit for 55Fit for 55” package and its regulatory framework serve as a catalyst for these changes, particularly with the 2035 ban on internal combustion engine vehicles. The chapter presents a case study on Stellantis, analyzing its Dare Forward 2030 plan, including investment in six gigafactories and the localization of battery production. A make-or-buy analysis, supported by data provided by Stellantis representatives, evaluates four production scenarios for the electric Ducato van. This is complemented by a PESTLE and SWOT analysisSWOT analysis to assess the viability and strategic implications of each scenario, offering insights into the complex decisions surrounding supply chain transformation in the EVEVBEV era.
