This chapter analyzes the ongoing transformations in the semiconductorsemiconductorsemiconductor industry industry, with a particular focus on the global chip shortage. It investigates the vulnerabilities and challenges within the semiconductorsemiconductorsemiconductor industry value chain, especially in light of recent geopolitical tensions and the disruptions caused by the pandemic. Through a scenario analysisscenario analysismethodology approach, the chapter explores three alternative scenarios: the status quo, reshoring in the United States, and a European scenario. The analysis emphasizes the critical role of semiconductorsemiconductorsemiconductor industry foundriesfoundries, considered the key node in the value chain, and evaluates the potential implications of shifting these foundries from Asia to Western territories. Each scenario is assessed using qualitative and quantitative variables to evaluate its feasibility, vulnerabilityvulnerability, and potential economic impact. The chapter concludes with a comparison of the three scenarios, providing insights into the resilienceresilience of the semiconductorsemiconductorsemiconductor industry industry and offering recommendations for future research. It suggests that further studies should focus on strengthening the stability of the semiconductorsemiconductorsemiconductor industry supply chain, particularly by addressing currently underexplored phases and leveraging advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence to enhance efficiency and mitigate risks.

摘要
