In this chapter, we show you how dentine is, what its characteristics are, its composition, the types of dentine that can be distinguished, and its histological organisation. You will see that dentine is made up of dentinal tubules and an intertubular matrix, which are its basic structures. In addition, other secondary structures can be seen in dentine, produced by variations in the basic structures. You will be able to study how the differentiation of the odontoblast from an undifferentiated mesenchymal cell takes place. We will also show you how dentine is synthesised and mineralised. Finally, you will see the theories that try to explain how dentinal pain is captured.

摘要
