Established from the ground up in 1985, Glavkosmos was introduced as a new division within the Ministry of General Machine Building to align with the evolving demands of the era and the overarching political direction of the Kremlin’s new leadership. The organisation was tasked with addressing emerging challenges, formulating tactics for an entirely new operational environment, and developing the strategic vision necessary to integrate effectively into the domestic space industry while also achieving success in the international market. This chapter examines and evaluates both the accomplishments and shortcomings of Glavkosmos.
