The philosophical discourse of mind, reason, and culture in the West can be traced back to ancient Greek philosophy. Ancient Greek philosophers had developed the first Western metanarrative of the human mind, reason, and culture and had established the ideal of liberation of individual minds as ideal of philosophy, and enthroned philosophy as the art of liberating individual minds from the prison of falsity, prejudice, bodily desires and irrational will. The Milesians, the three solitary figures, the monists, the pluralists, the three sophists, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and the Hellenistic and Roman philosophers, those philosophical stars shined brightly and enlightened the Western world.
