In this chapter, I will present a narrative account of a professional SCP gathering I attended in 2021, that was promoted as a forum within which to explore the phenomenon of race within the British SCP professional community, amongst facilitators and between facilitators and clients and how this dynamic reflects the way in which race in society at large in the UK and beyond manifests. I will also offer a further account of what happened in the following year between 2021 and 2022 because of this gathering, amongst a smaller cohort of SCP practitioners and the way(s) in which race, racialisation, neocolonialism and the beginnings of a decolonial praxis played out in this environment. I will explore the connotations of this dynamic in terms of the potential and appetite for rigorous decolonial praxis within the international SCP professional community. Included in this chapter will be a poem I wrote, as a response to the immediate developments following the original event as an expression of outrage, provocation and as an intentional creative, decolonial restorative focal point. My purpose in so doing was to catalyse a more attuned engagement with the issues of racialisation, neocolonialism and the potential for decolonial praxis as a concrete approach for the SCP professional community to adopt, in developing and evolving SCP in the British context as a potential way-marker for the international SCP community.
