This chapter will provide insight into the specific ancestry and cultural heritage I am grounded in personally and provide you with a view into the formative cultural forces that shaped my sense of identity and self. Also, this chapter will begin to explore and interrogate the dimensions of social, cultural and political systems that have had particular impact in creating the wider historic and contemporary political and economic circumstances, that for our purposes began with Euro-American colonialism in the fifteenth century, and includes the Transatlantic Slave Trade, alongside the innumerable revolts by enslaved Africans in what we now refer to as the Global South. This geopolitical region was historically referred to as the European Colonies in Africa, The Caribbean and the Americas. The chapter summarises how these political and cultural movements in turn impacted the Global North (Northern Europe, North America, Canada and Australia). The chapter also introduces some of the language specific to colonial, postcolonial, neocolonial and decolonial studies, as these pertain to systemic constellations practice (SCP). It is a core part of my argument that these historic cultural and political dimensions of modernity are the very dimensions typically absent from most framings of SCP. Bringing to bear these wider economic and political worldmaking dynamics provides the deeper context and motivational seed for this whole volume.
